COLUMBUS, Ohio — Aethereal Jest Arts Council is hitting the stage this weekend with a thrilling update to a classic murder mystery.
Originally written in the 1940s, "Nine Girls" tells the story of a group of sorority sisters at a remote clubhouse who are murdered one-by-one after learning of the death of another of their members.
"We are taking the script and keeping it for the most part," explained Ashley Zarzabal, the director of the play, "but setting it in modern times with some tweaks to give it more of a contemporary feel."
According to Zarzabal, the story's underlying themes deal with social stratification and how people treat others perceived to be from a different social class.
Zarzabal praises the play's cast and crew as well as volunteers from community for all of the work that went into the production.
She said, "Everyone was really excited to get this project off the ground."
Aethereal Jest Arts Council's production of "Nine Girls" runs through March 10 at the Columbus Performing Arts Center in downtown Columbus.
