COLUMBUS, Ohio — Actors' Theatre of Columbus kicked off its summer season with a comedic take on "Beauty and the Beast."
"Other retellings are either very 'Disney' or very serious, kind of dark, but this is just very funny, very sunshiney, I think," said Ogechi Mgbudem who plays Beauty in the play.
Two fairies, Man in Pink and Cecille, recount the tale of Beauty and the Beast to the audience.
"Our director kind of hopes to have the play be for the child inside of everyone, not just the children themselves," explained Mgbudem.
Beauty and the Beast runs now through June 16 at Schiller Park in German Village. All of the Actors' Theatre of Columbus' performances are free and open to the public.
Actors' Theatre of Columbus's season will continue with:
6/20 - 7/14: "Chicken and Biscuits"
7/18 - 8/11: "Twelfth Night"
8/15 - 9/1: "An Iliad"
