NEW YORK — CBS will re-air its broadcast of Billy Joel's record-breaking 100th consecutive performance at Madison Square Garden after a “network programming timing error" cut the program short on Sunday.
Joel was performing "Piano Man" — the final song of the concert — when the broadcast switched to local news for parts of the country.
"A network programming timing error ended last night's Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones," Julie Holland, CBS's Vice President of Communications, said in a statement. "We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song."
The special got a late start Sunday night after the network's coverage of the Masters Tournament.
"Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden" will re-air in its entirety on CBS on Friday, April 19 at 9 p.m. EST.
Since Joel's first show at the venue on Dec. 14, 1978, through his final residency show this July, every single one of Joel’s concerts at Madison Square Garden has been sold out.
