COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman who was shot by a Columbus police sergeant while she was hitting him with a stolen car died on Friday.
Columbus Police Sgt. Joseph Albert confirmed 32-year-old Holly Graham died at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
On Feb. 7, police found a reported stolen vehicle at a Sheetz gas station located on East Dublin Granville Road.
Albert said officers saw the vehicle turn into Huntley Square and start driving erratically. Officers were able to block off the exits of the plaza.
The vehicle began backing up and abruptly accelerated forward, striking a sergeant, who was out of his vehicle. Graham continued driving around the parking lot with the sergeant on the hood of the car.
Albert said the sergeant fired multiple shots at Graham. She was struck at least once.
The vehicle drove through a grassy median and back onto East Dublin Granville Road, causing the sergeant to fall off the hood.
While attempting to drive away, Graham hit two other vehicles head-on in the area of Interstate 71. The sergeant and the occupants of the two other vehicles all survived their injuries.
Graham was charged with felonious assault for causing serious physical harm to a peace officer.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
