Owner of Westerville pizzeria dies after nearly 2 year long cancer battle

Known for offering both Columbus and New York-style pies, Cardinal Pizza has served as a Westerville hotspot since it opened in 2019.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Westerville community is mourning one of their own after a local pizza shop owner lost his battle with cancer earlier this week.

Bob Williamson, the owner of Cardinal Pizza, passed away at age 41 after nearly a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, the pizzeria shared on social media on Wednesday.

Williamson was diagnosed in March 2022 and went through major surgery, chemotherapy and radiation all while running Cardinal Pizza.

"Bobby was a humble and unassuming husband, dad, brother, uncle, son, cousin, boss, friend and community leader that has made a mark on the city of Westerville and each of us. He was a person that brings people together," his siblings said.

Known for offering both Columbus and New York-style pies, Cardinal Pizza has served as a Westerville hotspot since it opened in 2019.

The pizzeria was a catalyst for Williamson to support the local community, regularly donating to Whittier Elementary School and sponsoring Rotary Fourth of July.

Cardinal Pizza also aided in fundraising for the Westerville Area Resource Ministry and Nationwide Slice of Columbus. In addition, Williamson partnered with the Arts Council of Westerville and invited artists from the Community Artists of Westerville to exhibit their creations in the eatery.
