Columbus police arrest 34, seize fentanyl and cocaine in 1st crime blitz of 2024

The blitz resulted in 18 felony arrests and 16 arrest warrants being served. One firearm and one stolen vehicle were recovered by officers.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police released the results of its first crime blitz operation of the year.

“Operation Unity” is a collaboration between law enforcement agencies and social services in Franklin County that first started in 2021. During a short period, officers increase patrols and presence in focused neighborhoods to help crack down on certain crimes and activities.

On Thursday, Columbus police focused their crime prevention efforts on the southern and eastern neighborhoods of the city, including:

  • Hungarian Village
  • Vassor Village
  • Deshler Park
  • South Side
  • Southern Orchards
  • Old Oaks
  • Livingston Park
  • Olde Town East

The blitz resulted in 18 felony arrests and 16 arrest warrants being served. One firearm and one stolen vehicle were recovered by officers.

Police also seized 59 grams of fentanyl and five grams of cocaine.

Out of the 252 traffic stops conducted, 172 traffic citations were issued. Fifty-two suspects were found driving without a license and two were cited for operating a vehicle under the influence. Columbus police impounded a total of 65 vehicles.
