Video shows partial building collapse in near east Columbus; no injuries reported

Photos from the building, located at 1032 E. Long St., shows the collapse impacted the backside of the building.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Fire said there are no reported injuries after a building partially collapsed in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood.

Crews were called to the scene around 11:45 a.m. Monday.

Photos from the building, located at 1032 E. Long St., show the backside of the building had collapsed.

A city inspector was nearby looking at a different building when he heard the building crumbling and called the fire department.

Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Geitter said a firefighter was on the second floor when the building collapsed, however, he was able to make it out safely.

"A very close call for us. Seems like a relatively routine run for us and went sideways. One of the dangers we face, really on all of our runs we are called for," Geitter said.

There was a business on the first floor of the building, but it was not open at the time of the collapse.

The city's chief building official has since issued an emergency order requiring the owner to demolition the building immediately.

The owner, who lives on the third floor, was not there at the time.

Roads surrounding the building will remain closed until the rest of the building comes down.
