ATHENS, Ohio — Five people are dead after a residential fire in Athens County Thursday morning, according to the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office.
Investigators were called to Rainbow Lake Road around 8 a.m. and stated that the structure was heavily damaged and consumed by fire.
According to the Ohio Department of Commerce, fire departments found two mobile homes fully engulfed. A separate outbuilding was also damaged by the fire.
When the fire was put out, five people were found dead. One person was able to make it out of the fire and they were taken to a hospital. Their condition was not released.
The victims have not been identified at this time.
“When I looked out my front door I could see flames over there,” said Jack Martin, who lives across the street from where the fire took place.
While he didn't know his neighbors personally, he said he knows children lived there. When he heard it was fatal, it was a lot to take in.
“I hated it,” Martin said
